Understanding Custom .NET Development
Analyzing Custom Microsoft .NET Development and the Business Benefits

Whether you’re familiar with .NET development or only work with the non-technical side of business, you might not have a full picture of what custom web development can provide for your business using Microsoft technology. Many companies see in-house production of web software as the only resource to tap for big software projects. Bringing consultants with experience in best business practices for royalty systems and other custom development can ensure that your project produces results with solid return on investment.

Microsoft .NET The Definition of Custom .NET Development

Microsoft created the .NET framework in 2002 to provide a developing platform that would offer speed in development and greater security for business. The .NET 1.0 framework in 2002 in conjunction with Visual Studio .NET offered businesses new tools to develop under a more secure Microsoft technology, with the Service Pack 3 bringing even more support and improved security.

With the major upgrade to 1.1 in 2003, Microsoft .NET framework demonstrated that .NET could create a viable framework for mobile ASP.NET controls, while also working seamlessly with other technologies, such as Oracle.

The expansion to .NET 2.0 in late 2005 with Visual Studio 2005 improved the framework with 64-bit support, integration with SQL Server, and improved web controls through ASP.NET. The advent of .NET 3.0 slightly less than one year after 2.0's release brought a whole new level to user experience, with improved user interface, media, and document incorporation.

With the release of Microsoft .NET 3.5 in 2007 in conjunction with Visual Studio 2008, development in the .NET framework became faster and easier. New features from 3.5 meant additional flexibility with new extension methods. The extension methods allow for third-party assembly classes and make modifications to the existing types of methods possible, without needing to create derived types. Even though .NET 4.0 was released April of 2010 with improved support for parallel computing, .NET 3.5 held its ground as a solid development framework from 2007 to 2010 and is still a popular version.
